On August 17, Prof. Dr. Isak Frumin, Head of the Observatory of Higher Education Innovations at Constructor University and Principal Investigator at Constructor Knowledge Labs, delivered an invited talk at the online Aula Magna hosted by Universidade Católica de Brasília (UCB), Brazil, on navigating the AI transition in higher education.
Drawing on comparative research into how universities across different regions are responding to AI, Prof. Frumin discussed the range of approaches institutions are taking, including policy-driven responses and initiatives developed within academic communities. A key focus was the balance between top-down governance and bottom-up innovation, as well as the role of institutional culture, governance models, and available resources in how universities integrate AI into academic life.
The discussion addressed a question that is becoming increasingly important for higher education: how can universities develop coherent approaches to AI without limiting the experimentation that drives academic innovation? Comparative evidence across countries helps identify which institutional conditions support this balance and where new models of AI governance may be needed.
