Constructor University’s autonomous racing team secured second place at the A2RL European premiere in Imola, Italy, held at one of motorsport’s most demanding circuits.
Competing against four international teams — TUM, Unimore, PoliMOVE and Kinetiz — Constructor Racing started from fifth position and fought its way to the podium in front of a full house on 5 September. The result matches the team’s best-ever A2RL finish, first achieved at the league’s inaugural race in 2024.
The team was led by Professor Andreas Birk and Team Principal Ilya Schimcik, together with the wider Constructor Racing team.
Imola put the autonomous racing system to a serious test. Tight corners, elevation changes and limited overtaking opportunities meant the car had to constantly adapt – managing traction, reacting to other cars and making split-second decisions about when to overtake.
The result also shows how quickly autonomous racing technology is progressing. Two years ago, a human reference driver was more than ten seconds faster than A2RL lap times. At Imola, that gap had narrowed to less than one second.
The second-place finish marks another strong international result for Constructor Racing and reflects the team’s continued progress in autonomous racing and Physical AI.
