Advancing AI in Materials Science: SCIANCE Workshop in Darmstadt

SCIANCE Materials Science Workshop (Task 2.1) in Darmstadt, Germany

On 28 September, Prof. Dr. Andrey Ustyuzhanin, Adjunct Professor of Computer Science at Constructor University, as well as Co-Chair of the SCIANCE AISWG on Materials Science (SCIANCE EU Project), led the SCIANCE Materials Science Workshop (Task 2.1) in Darmstadt, Germany.

The workshop gathered experts to critically assess the current landscape of AI in Materials Science and further refine the scientific framing of the SCIANCE work in this area.

Building on the latest version of the D1.1 landscape report, the discussion focused on validating key developments and challenges, identifying missing and emerging research directions, and examining major bottlenecks, opportunities, and open questions at the intersection of AI and materials science.

A key outcome was a consolidated set of expert inputs to strengthen the next iteration of the report and help define research priorities for the coming years – including relevant methodologies, applications, datasets, tools, and opportunities for future collaboration.
